Bogor Botanical Gardens History
In 1811, when the Napoleonic wars in Europe, Indonesia at that time called the Dutch East Indies or Nederlandsch Indie, taken by England from Napoleon’s fall Belanda.ketika power (1815/1816) the leaders of European countries to make agreements, among others, about the division of territory . On 15 April 1817 sparked the idea for Reinwardt establish the Botanic Garden is submitted to GAGP Baron Van der Capellen, Commissioner General of the Dutch East Indies, and he eventually agreed to the idea Reinwardt. Botanical Garden was established by the Governor-General Palace in Bogor on 18 May 1817, conducted the first erection stakes that marked the establishment of the Botanical Gardens which is named ‘Slands Plantentiun te Buitenzorg’. The establishment of this Botanical Garden marks the establishment of Dutch rule and the start of the knowledge of science activities biology, especially of botany in Indonesia are organized.
After independence, in 1949 “Slands Plantentiun te Buitenzorg” to be renamed the Bureau of Investigation of Nature, and then became the Central Institute of Natural Inquiry (LLPA) led and managed by the Indonesian people, LPPA first Director was Prof.. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo. At that time, had 6 children LPPA institutions, namely the Bibliotheca Bogoriensis, Hortus Botanicus Bogoriensis, Bogoriensis Herbarium, Treub Laboratory, Museum zoologicum Bogoriensisi and Laboratory Investigation Sea. For the first time in 1956 the leadership of the Botanical Gardens held by the Indonesian people are replacing J. Sudjana Kasan Douglas. For the development of plant collections in accordance with the existing climate in Indonesia, Bogor Botanical Gardens established branches in several places, namely:
Cibodas Botanical Garden (te Bergtuin Cibodas, Hortus and Laboratory Cibodas) in West Java, the extent of 120 ha with an altitude of 1400 m, was founded by Teysman year 1866, for the collection of upland crops wet temperate and tropical regions of sub-tropical plants. Year of Gardens 1891 is equipped with a laboratory for the study of flora and fauna.
Purwodadi Botanical Garden (Hortus Purwodadi) in East Java, founded by Van Sloten in 1941. The extent of 85 ha with a height of 250 m, for a collection of low-lying plants, tropical dry climate.
Kebun Raya “Eka Karya” Bali Bedugul-founded in 1959 by Prof.. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo. The extent of 159.4 ha with an altitude of 1400 m, for the collection of upland crops dry climates.
